Rosacea

discussing rosacea treatments with a client at Hebe Beauty Bar in Red Deer

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory condition causing facial redness, pimples, thickened skin, and a rash. This skin condition is triggered by an abundance of large blood vessels.  It is usually found on the forehead, chin, nose, and cheeks. There is no cure, but skin treatments can help to eliminate redness and improve skin tone

It is more common in women and those with lighter skin but men can experience it too. Although it is more common in women, the symptoms men experience can be more severe. The severity of symptoms may change and can become more pronounced with stress, spicy foods, sun exposure, or other triggers.

Skin treatment strategies include calming inflammation, rebuilding the dermis, increasing circulation, repairing damaged capillaries, and repairing the skin barrier.

Rosacea can be difficult to treat as each individual will have different features or combination of features and will react differently to different treatments. Our experienced team will work with you to develop the correct skin treatment plan for your skin and symptoms of rosacea.

Treatments to Help Manage Rosacea

Micro-Neurotoxins to help Rosacea Symptoms

Injecting tiny amounts of neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport)  into more superficial layers of the skin can help interfere with the blood vessel’s ability to dilate. This can slow the surge of blood flow to the skin. Patients can experience a quietening in the redness of their skin.

This is a great skin treatment for those experiencing flushing, though it hasn’t been found to work well with those experiencing rosacea acne, itchy eyes, or broken blood vessels. Studies have been small but it is a promising effective alternative treatment with few to no side effects for patients. Note that improvements are temporary.

Microneedling to Improve Rosacea

Radiofrequency microneedling stimulates the production of collagen to encourage a natural healing response from the body and to activate the body’s cellular repair mechanisms. It can help reduce inflammation and improve circulation. Clients may also see a reduction in itching,  burning, or stinging.

Treatments can be adjusted as required depending on the skin goals of the individual. It can also be used to treat active breakouts that some people may experience with their rosacea.

RF microneedling works well on those with mild to moderate rosacea. It is also safe for those with darker skin tones. Initial treatments may be more superficial to allow for a healing response.
